P.I.O. (Public Information Officer) Classes

For anyone that must communicate with the media!

Law Enforcement | Fire Department | Public Safety | Industrial | V.I.P.

My 18 plus years of experience at KPRC TV in Houston has given me many opportunities to work with many entities on a variety of situations. Below is a course description of what I can provide in a one or two day session.  In addition law enforcement officers can use the course as a TCLEOSE credit under course 3800 technical specialize training.

My service can be customized depending on the needs of a individual agency or organization. Payment of my services is based on the course content and length.

COURSE GOALS: This course will cover several different concepts in communicating with the media for law enforcement officials.  The course is designed for Police, Sheriff and Law enforcement officials to learn how to improve their communications skills among print and broadcast media.  The course is also excellent for VIP’s, commercial and industrial officials that are responsible for media relations both on a day to day nature as well as emergency response.

You will learn how to...

  • Provide public information to the media on daily coverage
  • Use the media to help get out breaking news
  • Coverage of catastrophic events
  • On camera interviews
  • News conferences
  • How to use social media for your benefit
  • Writing news releases

You will learn how to notify the media and when providing information jointly with other agencies can be beneficial.  This course will use audio/visual recording equipment and role playing to simulate actual press briefings.

Depending on the course selection and amount of participants, recorded one on one interview training will be given.

COURSE FORMAT: The course makes extensive use of lecture and discussion.  Real videos and handouts may also be used to supplement the text and discussions.  Additional role playing and other simulated case scenarios will be practiced.
